Composer & musician

Kristian Skårbrevik is a Norwegian composer, guitarist, and sound artist whose practice explores the intersection of sonic arts, performance, spaces, and music technology. Based in Oslo and Ålesund. He holds a BA from Berklee College of Music, MA from the University of Surrey, and the Norwegian Music Academy. Skårbrevik studied guitar with Mick Goodrich, composition and orchestration with Henrik Hellstenius, Asbjørn Schaatun, and sound art at NOTAM.


Skårbrevik's compositions span chamber music, ambisonic works, film music, orchestral works, sound installations, and interdisciplinary collaborations. He has worked with choreographers Einy Aam Sparks, Anderson Carvalho (NED), Katiana Pena (BR), and his music has been performed by The Explore Ensemble (UK), Audrey Riley (UK), and Ålesund Strykekvartett.  


As a performer, Skårbrevik has played with Pauline Oliveros, Christian Wolff, Maja Ratkje, Frode Hatli, Rolf-Erik Nystrøm, Else Olsen Storesund, Guro Skumsnes Moe, Lisa Dillan, and Michael Duch.
